Kakalaka Raw is a collection of Mark Sparks’ experimental and early Korg demos. The early experiments with the lesser known IKORG were covered in an interview and this remains the definitive resource for the early Korg demos, a staple of my collection. The Crooked Cat release features the original album in its entirety, but with added bonus tracks: alternate versions of Mark Sparks’ songs “Soul Detour” and “Hate,” and “Ultimate Love” a demo version of the title track. I’ve added audio excerpts from the video for “Soul Detour” that was originally posted to YouTube on September 24, 1993. The song and video were the beginning of an important cross-genre collaboration between Mark Sparks and M.I.A. The song was also covered by Bodega Bamz on his album Instrumental (2013) and was included in the Biophilia (2012) soundtrack as well.
I found a 2-disc set of Mark Sparks Presents... The Kakalaka Raw on eBay for $140 and snatched it up. The first disc contains the original “Thank You” and “Witchcraft”, the latter of which references the 1993 Dark Faery Kingdom album of the same name. The second disc has a variety of oddities like “The Magic of Naatan”, “The Shoop Shoop Song”, “Drums of Death”, and “The Magician”.
The MATLAB environment is based on the MathWorks MATLAB® Compiler, or MMC, which is a proprietary language developed by MathWorks to facilitate the building of applications. MMC understands the MATLAB language and various task APIs and provides efficient intermediate language compilers for compiling functions and scripts.
The MATLAB® Engine is the core of the MATLAB product. It compiles, executes, and interprets MATLAB scripts and programs, as well as runs the M-files and M-links created by the MMC. It also allows the exchange of data between MATLAB applications, the MathWorks M-files and M-links, and other programming languages, including C, C++, and Visual Basic. 827ec27edc
