Duty in Raptor presents the player with a mission which is usually flown from a flight suit cockpit, or alternatively in a cruise mode. After selecting a mission the game screen loads and the player immediately launches into in-flight maneuvers as he flies to the assigned airfield. The actual flight maneuvering is quite basic, and is no different to most flight sims, other than the aircraft responsiveness. For example, the plane can be flown left/right, and if you give it the slightest bit of wind, you'll quickly find yourself drifting erratically and you'll have to fix it yourself (which is done by manually pushing the sticks forward or backwards). Normally fly-by-wire flight does a better job of this, but the F-22 Raptor is perhaps not the ideal platform for this type of game.
The flight controls are responsive, and the speed of the aircraft is realistically maintained, although I found it a little unrealistic that the aircraft can reach 250km/h in only a few miles. The handling characteristics are also quite good, the aircraft feels solidly built and the controls are more than comfortable and easy to maneuver. The level of comfort is particularly good for a flight game, since the be powerful, and the cockpit is a little cramped due to a small cockpit view, but it's comfortably occupied and the switches and buttons are well-spaced. The cabin lights work appropriately and I didn't find any weird shortcuts that simply couldn't be expected.
The sounds of the Raptor are freely available on the internet and the in-flight/weapons sounds are handled adequately (although I would have liked to have more options on the pitch and volume controls). Similarly, the radio sounds are realistic and cover the typical radio frequency bands, although for some reason there is no Cessna tones for the 112 and 145 megahertz bands.
