Once we were nearing completion on the Battle Gear, we knew we wanted to be able to update the player with a new weapon of their own. The idea was for players to choose a weapon at a level equal to their current gear and then follow it into the next level.

One of the things I enjoyed most was that at first I didn't really know what to expect with this weapon. It was completely different from the other weapons, but I found it fun to pick it up, look at how it did things, and then pick it up again and try it out. It was fun to see how the Battle Gear would work in each different level and for each different enemy. I also found it fun to run around in this long gun with the Battle Gear strapped to my back and accidentally shoot things that were meant for the player!

We initially made it so that players could only choose between the Battle Gear and the Black Wing, but after playing the game over and over again in different scenarios, we realized that this wasn't working. What we really wanted to do was to give players the choice between any of the weapons we have and give them a reason to keep choosing a particular one every level.

Since it was launched into development, the Battle Gear has never been an intended item in the game, or even listed as a lootable weapon. Because of this, it was never implemented into the database. So it's unlikely this weapon will ever be implemented.

However, the Battle Gear would not be usable as a functional lootable weapon. It would just be a great looking sword to smash things with. But due to work with the visual team, the weapon was changed to be usable as a normal lootable weapon. As a result, the damage and other stats were altered and the sounds were changed.
