Users are very picky when it comes to installing codec packs on their PCs - nobody wants to bloat their system with useless files and tools that won't be of any use or will only cause incompatibility issues. You won't have this problem with XP Codec Pack. This compact, handy codec pack has always been Softonic's first choice whenever we need to install codecs or upgrade them on a PC.
Why Well, we like the fact that XP Codec Pack focuses on the most popular formats, and so it's not overloaded with codecs most users will hardly use. Secondly, it's easy to install and lets you choose exactly what you want, both for codecs and tools. Finally, XP Codec Pack is incredibly stable and highly compatible: we've never had a single problem with codec since we began to use it.
Of course, that doesn't mean to say that XP Codec Pack is perfect. There are a few flaws that should be pointed out. The most demanding users will surely miss a wider array of formats in XP Codec Pack, as well as more codec-related tools like the ones you find in other codec packs.
Important note: The K-Lite Codec Pack does not expand the import abilities of professional video editors such as Vegas Movie Studio or Adobe Premiere. Those applications often only support importing a small set of file formats, and do not support using the type of codecs that are included in the codec pack (DirectShow/VFW). Modern editors often only use their own internal codecs or only support external codecs of the Media Foundation type.
Codec packs have a bad reputation because they often bloat your PC with a million codecs you don't need, along with the ones you do. X Codec Pack avoids this by only installing the most popular - XviD, FFDShow, AC3 filter, VSFilter, MediaInfo, Media Player Classic HC - which, in all likelihood will be the ones you need.
When you install X Codec Pack, the new filters and codecs will take effect immediately, and you won't have to make any tweaks unless you really want to. This is probably a good thing, as there's no X Codec Pack interface, per se - any changes need to be made to the individual codec settings. These are most easily accessible in the Start Menu folder, and bear in mind that each codec interface is slightly different.
As codecs are important, but pretty boring, most people will really appreciate X Codec Pack. It's easy to install, easy to use, and, if you need, easy to remove. If you're having problems viewing media files, X Codec Pack should be your fist port of call.
X Codec Pack is not just another codec pack. Only the most used and popular codecs are included in this comprehensive pack. If you are looking for a big pack with lots of codecs, filters, tools, this is the wrong place. Lots of codecs can mess up Windows.
Codecs are software components that define the methods that applications use during encoding to compress media files, such as songs or movies. Applications also use codecs to decompress encoded media files during playback.
Additional codecs can be installed on the computer to add support for more types of media files. (For example, codecs can be downloaded from the Internet to install, or applications installed on the computer can add codecs to the computer.) Poorly written, damaged, or incompatible codecs can cause problems in Adobe video and audio applications, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Extended, and Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Adobe applications load codecs from different sources, and this document has separate sections for troubleshooting each of the sources that are most likely to cause problems. It's possible that some of the sections in this document don't apply to the problem that you are troubleshooting.
To identify problematic Windows codecs, disable one codec at a time and try to re-create the problem after you disable each one. Avoid disabling codecs that were included with Windows XP; see Video and Audio Codecs Included with Windows XP below for a list of such codecs.
Note: There can be multiple instances of one or more of these audio codecs: aux, midi, mixer, and wave (for example, aux1, aux2, midi1, midi2, and so on). If the Data in the Registry Editor for an additional instance lists wdmaud.drv, then the codec was included with Windows XP. Avoid disabling it. Otherwise, disable the codec as part of the troubleshooting process.

If you're looking for a way to make Windows XP run a lot faster, then you might want to consider using XP Codec Pack. What's it, you may ask It's an application that compiles all the files into one series of very small packets, which can then be sent across the Internet using various protocols such as HTTP, SMTP, or FTP. This ensures that your computer can handle multiple downloads at the same time, which will greatly improve its response time.
So, why would you use XP Codec Pack Well, basically because it optimizes your system for the different video file formats which are commonly used on PCs these days. Why Well, simply because it focuses on the most widely used formats, which means that it's not overloaded by codecs, therefore making it highly efficient and easy to use by the end user.
Another reason to use XP Codec Pack is because of its compatibility with Windows 8. Nowadays, Windows operating systems aren't compatible with all video card drivers. This makes it necessary for you to use certain codes which are already developed for Windows based systems. However, since XP cannot work with all the drivers, you need to get an application that is specifically made to work with XP, such as XP Coding Converter. This makes it highly effective at converting your files from different formats. You can also opt to get other programs to convert your files for you, but XP codec pack is highly recommended software.
